The Moscow Incident:
This is a real test game that was run. The added fluff is for your reading pleasure. Please realize that I am not a part of the MERCS team (just a play tester), so the fluff is of my own creation. In no way does it reflect the MERCS product, story-line or up coming game. The actual rules were left out, as they are still a secret. But the game was played using the beta-rules and this is what happened:
10 days ago the KemVar were approached by a USCR scientist (through an intermediary) about “transferring” to a new MegaCon. Never ones to pass up a good scientist, the KemVar decided that it was a good time to assist the scientist with his career change. Afraid of the consequences of publicly abducting a renowned USCR lab rat, the KVers approached the FCC, asking for a bit of discreet help.
The FCC agreed to assist with the transfer under three conditions: 1. They were to be paid 10 million Euros. 2. They got to keep any “tech” that they were able to extract from the laboratory. 3. The KemVar had to send a clandestine representative on the mission.
Being a smart group of businessmen, the KV agreed… heck the scientist was worth well more than 10 million Euros.
Using a group of FCC agents from another House, the FCC assault unit attacked the security detail stationed around the laboratory where the scientist was housed. Unknown to them, the USCR always kept a 5 man MERCS unit stationed in one of the sub-levels of the laboratory.
After the initial assault was complete, a KemVar hacker attacked the USCR security net, hoping to buy the FCC assault team a few minutes of “freedom”. Quickly realizing that he was out matched, the KV hacker radioed the assault team and told them that they had 13 minutes before back-up USCR security would be on site. All the while, the on site USCR MERCS crew was taking position in the laboratory.
The FCC team made its initial entry into the building unimpeded. They had to work their way to the 3rd floor, where the scientist was being housed. Upon entry to the third floor, they were met with a blistering assault from the USCR Behemoth. Using his shoulder mounted twin machine guns; he laid down heavy fire and wounded the FCC Liaison officer. Luckily the FCC Member was close at hand, med kit ready to go.
The FCC quickly spread out, returning fire, wounding the USCR Medic and Behemoth. The FCC Boomer (grenade trooper) realized that his launcher was going to be hard to use in such close quarters, however he did drop a frag grenade onto the USCR Monkeywrench. The Monkeywrench quickly repaired his own armor, so not to be immobilized and ineffective in the fire fight.
For the next few minutes, the FCC and the USCR traded shots, jockeying for position. The FCC was able to make use of their corporate ability(s) and finally break past the USCR and start hunting down the scientist. Meanwhile the USCR were hot on their trail and gun fights erupted on and off for the next few minutes.
The FCC Housemaster received a radio signal from his evac vehicle, letting her know that they need to be at their exfil zone in 4 minutes. The USCR seemed intent about not letting to FCC capture the scientist. The USCR were able to kill the FCC Member fairly quickly, which left a whole in the FCC crew. Not only did they lose a good fighter, but also a good medic and mechanic. Not to be out done, the FCC got a bead on the USCR Monkeywrench and killed him. The FCC Boomer was also able to drop another grenade, killing the USCR Behemoth.
Revenge was not to be very sweet, as the USCR took out the FCC Liaison and Boomer. The tables were starting to tip in the USCR favor, but the Black-Ops KemVar Heavy Assault trooper had had just about enough. Using his twin auto guns, he opened up on the USCR, who had boldly moved close together. With a combined effort with the FCC Housemaster, the USCR quickly lost their Leader.
The USCR Sniper, with his low powered rifle, swung around the corner and shot the KemVar Heavy Assault trooper. The FCC Housemaster quickly dispatched the USCR sniper, but realized that she was in serious trouble. She was wounded, her crew had been decimated and she still had not extracted the doctor.
The USCR Medic forgot all about his oath to protect life and opened fire on the FCC Housemaster. After 30 seconds of trading fire, the Housemaster fell to the ground. Her lifeless corpse lay in a pile, right next to the room where the cowering scientist had been hiding in a coat closet.
Several minutes later, the USCR were able to successfully blast the KV evac vehicle from the sky. As USCR reinforcements arrived on scene, they were shocked to discover that one of the dead assaulting MERCS was not one of those rabble rousing FCC members, but rather he had the marking of a KemVar MERC. If the KV wanted a covert war, then they were about to get one.
